Position Highlights:
Associates at Scotiabank's Global Banking and Markets division start their career in either the Investment Banking or Mergers & Acquisitions group and enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment which includes preparing and delivering client presentations, financial modeling and research to senior group members within specific industry sectors. As the development of the individual progresses, Associates will take on increased responsibilities including helping to execute live transactions.
A significant amount of time, diligence and effort is required for an Associate to properly execute such investment banking assignments. The complexity of any clients’ financial requirements coupled with the intense competitiveness of the investment banking industry necessitates an Associate be completely dedicated to the task at hand. Associates must have a strong work ethic, be accommodating, and maintain extremely high professional standards as their work will be a contributing factor towards presentations made to senior executives at client firms. Putting forth a strong and consistent effort is critical to the success and development of an Associate at Scotiabank. Associates must also be willing to work extended business hours, including weekends as required, in order to meet multiple work deadlines. Supervision by senior group members is provided only to the extent that it is required and then mostly at the macro level.
Scotiabank also brings Associates in contact with clients at the earliest possible stage of an investment banking transaction process, allowing them the opportunity to gain valuable experience including how to manage and cultivate future client relationships. A high degree of client interaction is often afforded to those individuals who can demonstrate the desire and ability to take on such responsibilities.
With a limited hierarchy of professionals and a small team approach, Associates have the room to develop both personally and professionally. On any given project, Associates will interact with various departments within Scotiabank's Global Banking and Markets division such as Corporate Banking, Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets and Research, resulting in a broader and better understanding of how an investment bank operates.
New Associates may participate in the Capital Ideas Program, an intensive investment banking training program developed at Scotiabank's Global Banking and Markets division. The program is designed to orient participants to our culture, people, products and services and to provide the soft and technical skills, and contacts critical for success. Team projects, individual study and social activities supplement classroom discussions.
