Day in the Life

Fanny

Typical Day

My day starts by 7:30, when I usually first come in and look at overnight news and how the market is opening up.  This often involves a few morning market update calls with other groups in the bank in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

The rest of my day depends on various factors, including whether we are involved in transactions in the market.  Although we may work on a deal anywhere from a few days to a few months, most of the excitement happens once it is publicly announced to the market. Our group is responsible for advising the company on a successful transaction, which involves updating them on current market conditions, providing a recommendation for an execution strategy and gathering investor feedback to obtain the best possible pricing.

As an associate in Debt Capital Markets, I provide support to the senior marketers on the desk as they are often on the road seeing clients.  This includes a wide range of responsibilities from putting together presentations and market analysis to helping structure and price transactions.  The combination of these more day-to-day tasks and being involved in live transactions often results in having to multi-task in the midst of a very fast-paced environment.  There really is never a dull moment on the trade floor!
