Excellence in Innovation – GBM Diversity & Inclusion Office
Scotiabank’s Global Banking and Markets (GBM) Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Office was recognized with the 2018 WCM Excellence in Innovation Award. This award honours those who have approached gender diversity with an innovative lens and taken bold steps to improve diversity and inclusion.
In 2015, Scotiabank became the first Canadian-based bank to establish a D&I Office reporting directly into the global wholesale banking business line, making D&I a business priority. The team sits on the trade floor and is led by Wendy Smith, Managing Director, and includes Bhiravi Ravichandran, Associate Director.
The team has a global mandate and has mobilized various regional D&I committees and Champions of Change across GBM’s footprint. Since 2015, the Office has launched important initiatives such as revised GBM recruitment rules, the Conscious Inclusion training program, the GBM Mentorship Program and Parental Advisor Liaison Program, to name a few. The Office has made a significant impact at GBM and is recognized as a thought leader in our industry.

Congratulations also to Carla Deeks, Director, Corporate Banking – Global Power, Infrastructure & Mining, on receiving the 2018 WCM Rising Star Award. This award honours high-performing female professionals who have demonstrated professional excellence and are on the path to becoming future leaders.
