Jake Lawrence

Chief Executive Officer and Group Head, Global Banking and Markets

Jake Lawrence was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Group Head, Global Banking and Markets in January 2021. In this role, Jake is responsible for the Bank’s Global Banking and Markets business line and strategy across its global footprint.

Jake joined Scotiabank in 2002 and has held progressively senior roles in Finance, Group Treasury and Global Banking and Markets. From December 2018 to January 2021, Jake was Co-Group Head of Global Banking and Markets with specific responsibility for its Capital Markets businesses, focused on building alignment across product groups and priority markets to best serve our clients throughout our global footprint. Previously, Jake was Executive Vice President and Head of Global Banking and Markets in the U.S., providing overall strategic direction and execution of Scotiabank’s U.S. businesses. Prior to moving into GBM, Jake served as Senior Vice President and Deputy Treasurer, responsible for Scotiabank’s wholesale funding activities and liquidity management as well as Senior Vice President, Investor Relations.

Jake holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Lakehead University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier School of Business and Economics.

James A. Neate

President and Group Head, Corporate & Investment Banking

James was appointed President and Group Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Scotiabank in January 2021. In this role, he holds global management responsibility for Investment Banking, Global Business Payments and Corporate Banking with a specific focus on building strategic alignment, leveraging key growth opportunities and enhancing customer relationships while strengthening risk and governance oversight across the Bank’s Americas footprint.

Since joining Scotiabank in 1985, James has held a variety of leadership positions in areas including: Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Wealth Management, International Banking and Global Banking and Markets.

James earned a BA in Economics and Political Science at McMaster University and completed the Ivey Executive Program at Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario.

Dany Beauchemin

Co-Head, Global Investment Banking and Canadian Corporate Banking

As Co-Head, Global Investment Banking and Canadian Corporate Banking at Scotiabank, Dany is responsible for Global Investment Banking across all industry groups, Canadian Corporate Banking, Merger and Acquisition activities and Equity Capital Markets.

Dany joined Scotiabank in 2003 and has held progressively more senior roles within Global Investment Banking. He was, most recently, Managing Director and Co-Head, Global Investment Banking and previously Co-Group Head, Diversified Industries. Over the course of his career with Scotiabank, he has participated in extensive training through a rotation program that included Derivatives, Structured Finance, Canadian and U.S. Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Banking.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Dany spent five years with Pratt & Whitney Canada working as an aerospace engineer.

Dany holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School where he graduated with “Distinction”, a Master of Aerospace Engineering from McGill University and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from McGill University.

Laura Curtis Ferrera, см

Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

Laura Curtis Ferrera, a chartered marketer, currently holds the position of SVP and Chief Marketing Officer. Since joining Scotiabank in February 2015, Laura has had an integral role in strategic marketing of the brands within her portfolio domestically and abroad, including the launch of Scotia Wealth Management. 

Within the Global Business Banking portfolio, she has been working to create a consistent client promise and brand experience across all business banking units including notably the launch of the Scotiabank Women InitiativeTM.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Laura’s prospecting strategies helped Macquarie Private Wealth double their national network of advisors and she developed a comprehensive suite of marketing support resources and services to assist those advisors to serve clients and build revenues. Laura’s boutique marketing team won top ranking for advisor support among all national independent investment firms in Canada in the Investment Executive Brokerage Report Card in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and again in 2014. 

Laura’s marketing interests extend beyond her role at Scotiabank. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian not-for-profit Children’s Aid Foundation and currently a member of the Duke of Edinburgh Board of Governors in Canada.

Pruyn Haskins

Managing Director and Head, Global Equities

Pruyn's responsibilities focus on global equity, which includes Scotiabank’s global presence in institutional equity sales and trading, equity derivatives, prime services and equity research. Since joining Scotiabank in 1998, Pruyn has held progressively senior roles within the capital markets business. He currently chairs the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee within Global Banking and Markets and has previously served as a Director of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC).

Pruyn is currently a board member of the Investment Industry Association of Canada and the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, as well as a member of the SickKids Campaign Cabinet.

He holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a CFA Charterholder.

Peter Heidinger

Managing Director and Head, Global Banking and Markets, Europe

Peter is responsible for the regional management of Scotiabank’s wholesale banking operations in Europe and is CEO of our Europe subsidiary. These operations include corporate and investment banking and global markets sales and trading. Most recently, Peter led Scotiabank’s wholesale operations in Asia and Australia. Prior to joining Scotiabank in 2015, Peter held global and regional coverage, credit and product roles at both U.S. and European banks. Over his career, he has been based in North America, Europe and Asia.

Peter holds an MBA from Concordia University, a Master of Economics degree from The University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Bishop's University.

Michael Kruse

Managing Director and Head, Global Banking and Markets, U.S.

Michael is responsible for the overall strategic direction and execution of Scotiabank’s U.S. businesses.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Michael was Co-Head of Global Banking for the Americas at Standard Chartered, which he joined in 2013.  Based in New York, he oversaw the management of wholesale clients across six different industry segments including: Technology, Media & Telecom (“TMT”), Energy & Natural Resources (ENR), Industrials, Services, & Transportation (“IST”), Consumer, Healthcare & Retail (“CHR”), Latin America, and Commodities, Trading, & Agriculture (“CTA).

Michael was previously based in Standard Chartered’s San Francisco office where he was Head of North American Coverage for the TMT segment and Head of the San Francisco Branch. In this role, he was responsible for interaction with the California Department of Business Oversight and the San Francisco Federal Reserve.

Before joining Standard Chartered, Michael was at J.P. Morgan Chase for 14 years, most recently as a Managing Director in the TMT segment in San Francisco. He was a founding member of the Global Corporate Bank and led numerous financings during his tenure at the firm.

Michael started his career in leverage finance at Comerica Bank, where he worked for 5 years. He holds an MBA and Bachelor’s degree in Finance. 

Chris Manning

Senior Vice President, Global Business Payments

As Senior Vice President, Global Business Payments, Chris is responsible for Scotiabank’s global payments vision and strategy, including the oversight of wholesale deposits and cash management service and sales, trade finance and correspondent banking for business banking customers.

Chris joined Scotiabank in 2007 at Roynat Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bank, and has held progressively senior roles across International Corporate & Commercial Banking, Canadian Commercial Banking and Global Risk Management.  Most recently, as Senior Vice President, Canadian Retail and Small Business Risk and Chief Risk Officer, Tangerine, Chris led portfolio risk strategies and adjudication operations for the Bank’s Canadian consumer businesses. 

Chris holds an MBA from Queen’s School of Business and in 2017 participated in the Institute of International Finance’s Future Leaders program.

Brian Manson

Managing Director & Global Head, Commodity Derivatives & G10 Foreign Exchange

Brian is the Global Head of Commodity Derivatives and G10 Foreign Exchange, overseeing the integrated Scotiabank Commodities platform for precious metals, base metals, and energy sales and trading. He joined Scotiabank in 2011, and previously was Global Head of Energy Trading and Sales.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, he held progressively senior roles at CIBC, JP Morgan, TD Securities, Lehman Brothers, and RBC, across Foreign Exchange Sales and Trading, and Commodity Sales and Trading. He has worked in various Canadian and U.S. markets, including Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and New York. 

Loretta Marcoccia

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Global Banking and Markets

Loretta Marcoccia was appointed Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO), Global Banking and Markets in November 2018.  In this role, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Global Banking and Markets and for developing and implementing strategy and priority initiatives.

Loretta joined Scotiabank in 2015 as Managing Director and COO for Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) before taking on the expanded role of Managing Director and COO of Global Capital Markets. In her most recent role, Loretta led global wholesale operations, regulatory initiatives, global analytics and financial engineering.

Before joining Scotiabank, Loretta previously served as Managing Director and COO at a global corporate and investment banking firm.

Loretta graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a Specialist in Administration. She is a member of Scotiabank’s Inclusion Council and Global Banking and Markets’ Diversity and Inclusion Committee.  She served on the inaugural Board of Directors for Women in Capital Markets.  

Amy Miller

Managing Director and Head, Global Loan Syndications

Amy is responsible for structuring and underwriting senior debt and bridge capital for a vast array of clients around the globe. Based in New York, and with teams in Toronto, London, Mexico City, Hong Kong and Singapore, she is engaged in raising debt capital in all of the world’s major financial centers.

Amy’s career in banking began in 1982 with Continental Bank, and then moved to Harris Bank in Chicago as VP of the Asia Pacific Group. From 1988 to 2000 Ms. Miller had various roles at TD Bank – including Global Head of Loan Syndications. She also served as Managing Director and Co-Head of Loan Capital Markets for Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York from 2000 to 2002.

Amy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis & Clark College in 1980, majoring in international affairs. She went on to Columbia University earning a Master’s degree in International Affairs/International Business in 1982.

Derek Pattison

Senior Vice President, Internal Control, Global Banking and Markets

Derek Pattison was named Senior Vice-President, Internal Control, Global Banking and Markets at Scotiabank in February 2020.  In this role, Derek is responsible for the management of all core non-financial risk deliverables across our footprint, including support for audit, compliance, enterprise risk, and anti-money laundering initiatives.

Derek joined Scotiabank in 2005 and has held a number of progressively senior roles, including Managing Director, Wealth Management Operations & Regulatory Solutions, Vice-President, International Wealth & Insurance Compliance, Vice-President & Head of Wealth Management in The Bahamas & Cayman Islands, Vice-President, Anti-Money Laundering, Canadian Banking, and Senior Vice-President, AML Controls, Global Banking and Markets.  Prior to joining Scotiabank, Derek was a lawyer in the financial services industry.

Derek holds a BA in Economics and an LLB from Western University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001. 

Janet Segeren-Lopes

Vice President, Human Resources, Global Banking and Markets

Janet was appointed Vice President, Human Resources Business Partner for Global Banking and Markets in April 2019.  In this role, Janet is accountable for supporting the execution of People related priorities in service of the business strategy within all geographies (Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific and the U.S), and all areas (Corporate & Investment Banking, Capital Markets, Global Business Payments, Operations and Corporate Functions.)

A seasoned HR Executive and Scotiabanker, Janet has held a number of roles within HR including Talent Management, Leadership, and most recently was VP, HR Business Partner for Scotiabank’s International Banking and Digital Banking businesses.

Previous to this, Janet spent time covering Marketing, Strategy and Communications portfolios within Scotiabank’s Wealth Management and International Banking businesses.

Janet holds a Masters of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has completed a certificate in Strategic Human Resources Planning at the University of Michigan -Stephen M. Ross School of Business.  She has also participated in Scotiabank’s iLead Executive Program at Duke University.

Janet lives in Toronto, and is married with one daughter.  

Paul Scurfield

Managing Director and Head of Global Fixed Income

In his role as Managing Director and Head of Global Fixed Income, Paul has global management responsibilities for Trading, Sales & Debt Capital Markets. He was appointed to this position in September of 2019.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Paul spent nearly 20 years at a Global Investment Bank in both Toronto and New York.  In that time, he held a variety of leadership positions across Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange & Equities.  He sat on both the Equity and Fixed Income Management Committees.

Paul completed his HBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business which included a stint at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM)

Adam Sinclair

Co-Head, Global Investment Banking and Canadian Corporate Banking

As Co-Head, Global Investment Banking and Canadian Corporate Banking at Scotiabank, Adam is responsible for Global Investment Banking across all industry groups, Canadian Corporate Banking, Merger and Acquisition activities and Equity Capital Markets. He also oversees the Bank’s investment banking practices in Canada, the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Adam has over 20 years of experience in corporate finance, debt, equity and M&A (New York, San Francisco and Toronto). He has advised on over $20 billion of M&A transactions and has helped his clients raise over $100 billion (debt and equity). Adam is a member of a number of committees, including equity liability, new names, and diversity & inclusion. He is also a Board member of the NHL Coaches Association.     

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Adam spent over 11 years at Barclays where he was most recently Head of the North American Depositories group and Head of Canadian FIG. Prior to Barclays, he spent eight years at Citibank in New York, San Francisco and Toronto.

Adam completed his Honours BA at Dalhousie University and his MBA (Finance) at McMaster University. Adam and his wife Allison are the proud parents of three children.

Walter Tas

Managing Director and Head, Global Banking and Markets, Asia Pacific

Walter is responsible for the regional management of Scotiabank’s operations in Asia Pacific. Walter joined Scotiabank in 1998 and has progressed through various positions in finance and corporate development. Most recently, Walter was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for Global Banking and Markets, Asia Pacific. In 2014, he assumed the position of Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Development, Asia Pacific, located in Hong Kong.

Walter holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration from Vrije Universiteit, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics from Hogeschool voor Economische Studies in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Robert Williams

Senior Vice President, International Corporate & Commercial Banking, Latin America and Caribbean

As Senior Vice President, International Corporate and Commercial Banking, Latin America and Caribbean, Robert is responsible for defining and implementing the strategic direction, goals and execution of key initiatives for the Bank’s International Corporate and Commercial Banking business lines.

Robert joined Scotiabank in El Salvador in 1999; since then he held a number of progressively more senior positions in Risk Management, Corporate and Commercial Banking, and more recently in General Management. In 2009 Robert was appointed Vice President of Corporate and Commercial Banking in El Salvador, with expanded responsibilities to include oversight of Treasury and Wealth Management. In 2011 he was appointed Country Head at Scotiabank Panama, and in 2015 he was promoted to Senior Vice President (SVP) and Country Head of Scotiabank Dominican Republic. In October 2018, he was appointed to his current position as SVP Corporate and Commercial Banking for the International Banking Division.

Robert has also built-up board experience having sat, and continuing to sit, as a Scotiabank representative on a variety of Bank subsidiary boards, and Bank-sponsored NGO’s.

Robert holds a BSc in Architectural Engineering (majoring in Structural Analysis) from the University of Texas at Austin, USA; a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in El Salvador; a Banking & Finance Diploma from Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios, in El Salvador; and, a Master’s in International Business Law (LLM) from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. Robert is also a member of the first cohort of Scotiabank’s iLEAD Executive Management Program created in conjunction with Duke University’s Corporate Education.
